Fashion Interview // Meet Talvin, A Local Nashvillian

Here is a first for Layered Black! As you know, we love getting inspired by the people around us, especially those in our own cities. Elizabeth interviewed local Nashvillian, Talvin Beville about what inspires him and how he manages to look amazingly chic Sunday through Saturday.

8 inches of rain

It may have been sunny out but the sloshy grass and major puddles called for wellies. I barely stayed dry trying keeping 2 boys out of puddles. It was an attempt that I found nearly impossible so I gave up after a short battle! By the end of this outing my shorts were black and muddy. It was a fun day and I was glad to put the camera away and just enjoy it:)

a little something sweet

Earth {nude} tones and romantic textures. These are usually things that I kept more to my home interior but I am slowly easing them into my wardrobe. I love that soft, romantic qualities they poses without being aggressive. My style is either edgy or romantic 2 opposites that I love trying to fuse together!

An extra zipper never hurt anyone (part2)

I love a simple tee and LnA is taking over my life SO DEAL WITH IT. I always find myself looking for interesting bottoms and shoes and then I go with a simple look on the top. Can't seem to stop myself. Shame on me I should try branching out. I should also try looking in the mirror harder- maybe I would have noticed my hot pink bra with orange shorts. Eh, well, when you have 2 kids you don't have time to think about things like that. (even though I somehow manage to find time to take photos)

Moving right along. I have been eyeing up Rebecca Minkoff bags for a while now... after many Google searches... missing out on 2 deal of the day sales...massive fashion blog binges... and all the Rebecca Minkoff facebook stalking I finally found the one I wanted. Oh, this isn't it though! Seemingly most bloggers had the MAC (her staple clutch- which is what I had full intention of getting.) When I got there and held this and the MAC both for a long period of time (I even think the clerk thought I was a shoplifter waiting for her to walk away) I decided I just couldn't put down this edgier clutch. I think we will have a happy life together. At least it will temporarily satisfy me since my REAL urge is to run out and buy the Rebecca Minkoff Doll booties click here to drool with me they are darling!

down at the pond

Don't you just love how my legs look blotchy? One would think that I broke down and got self-tanner. No way I hate that orange stuff. It is just my natural melanin crying out for the sun to come and save me! Since the sun has been MIA lately I will just have to sit tight and brave wearing shorts anyhow. Even if that means blinding the people who chose are forced to cast their eyes upon me. Besides... not having any color is giving me this nice monochromatic look from head to toe (not speaking of my outfit). Monochromatic is still in style isn't it?!

Definition of monochromatic thanks to wikipedia** Monochromatic color schemes are derived from a single base hue, and extended using its shades, tones and tints As a result, the energy is more subtle and peaceful due to a lack of contrast of hue. Monochromatic color schemes may be considered boring unless there is diversity within the design.  Yep, stick with us and we will teach you all kinds of stuff  just to make us feel better about ourselves.
PS don't you love my shorts hiked up grandpa style?? I do!

A Lovely Evening For A Wedding // Elizabeth

My brother got married yesterday in a gorgeous farm setting. Nashville weather is usually near the 90's by now, but we've had a mild spring of 60 and 70 degree days with tons of rain. It was an early evening outdoor wedding - overcast with a slight drizzle - very Willoughby-rescues-Marianne Dashwood ala Sense & Sensibility.

A little poof on top!

Do you like my photos? oh, good my 4 year old took them. I think he gets my good angle better than my husband does... kids these days!
I raided my mom's closet. It seems to be the best place to find what I am looking for lately. BONUS it is free and she seldom asks for it back. I love how she operates. She inspires a lot of my looks:) love you mom!
Oh, hey for once it was nice enough to bust out some shorts. So here is to summer and wearing a lot more color! Cheers

I'm not really tying my shoe

I have not been one to expand my horizons on a daily basis, but recently something has gotten into me. I am trying all sorts of new colors lately and, well, they seem to be working out just fine. I think these old lady type blouses just might be my new niche. It kinda works I guess, since I have recently discovered that I like a lot of things that my husband considers are "old lady-ish" like: big rings, huge sunglasses, silk scarves and Reuben sandwiches. I mean seriously who cares if I like bangles stacked up to my elbow and a little teasing in my hair, right?! Nothing wrong with style tips I took from grandma!
